Kathy Long, five-time world kickboxing champion, started martial arts when she was fifteen. She holds black belts in Aikido, Kung Fu San Soo, and Sho'Inryu Karate. Long also has trained in Kali (Filipino stick and knife fighting) and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
In 1991, Kathy was voted Woman of the year by the Black Belt Hall of Fame, and in 1992, she was chosen by Inside Kung Fu magazine as Female of the Year. In 1996, she was inducted into the Bob Elias Sports Hall of Fame. She was also honored by the Black Belt Magazine as Kick-boxer of the Year in 1992, and is the author of NO! NO! NO! : A Woman's Guide To Personal Defense and Street Safety (Putnam: 1993). She now writes a monthly column for the Black Belt Magazine.
But for all her brawn, Kathy is still the sweet girl next door. The dramatic contrast between her physical strength and innocent approachability has delighted the media and lead to an unprecedented storm in the press. Long has been on over 35 Martial Arts magazine covers in the United States, Europe, and Asia, as well as numerous feature articles in major mainstream magazines such as Sports Illustrated, Longevity, LA Weekly, Jane, Buzz Weekly, and Sport Magazine.
Since her burst into the acting front, Kathy has become one of the hottest talents in town appearing in features for Entertainment Tonight, The Today Show, E Entertainment, Hard Copy, Action TV, Chop TV and Prime Time Network's "Press Box," "Kick Up Your Heels" Festival and guest starred in "Sweet Justice" and "Walker Texas Ranger." She was one of the first color commentators in the ultimate fighting challenge as well as U.S. Satellite Broadcasting All Women's Professional Boxing Show. Kathy also hosted major kick boxing events on Pay Per View.
Kathy Long has worked with named directors such as Oliver Stone, Tim Burton, and Robert Zemekis. Long's charisma, talents, and skill, guarantee her a prominent place as one of America's greatest rising stars. She had her first starring role in the King's Road Production of "Knights". Letting her talents as a Martial Artist and actress shine. Since then, Long has starred in a number of other films as well as being featured in Major Motion Pictures such as; "Batman Returns", "Death Becomes Her", "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion" and "Natural Born Killers".
Kathy is in much demand as a trainer and consultant. Among others, she has trained Michelle Pfeiffer, Meryle Streep, Queen Latifa, Michael Keaton, and for the Young Presidents Organizations as well as at police departments in Pennsylvania and California. She is widely respected for her seminars in kickboxing and self-defense, which she has conducted around the United States, Europe, and Asia. Most recently, she has directed a martial arts camp at Colgate University, and has conducted a two-week in-house lecture and seminar at the University of Illinois, Urbana.
