On Saturday, January 28, 2006, Wang's Martial Arts celebrated its fifth annual Chinese New Year and Award Banquet. The celebration, which was held at Café East in Humble, Texas, took place on Chinese New Year's Eve and awarded students with trophies who had excelled in the past year in two divisions: tournament competition and academics. The evening's Master of Ceremonies was Mr. Ed Green who announced five places in each age group and category. First place trophies were an astonishing seven feet tall! Needless to say, students and parents alike were proud of their accomplishments upon receiving such an award.
After everyone had eaten their fill of delicious Chinese food and trophies had been awarded, 150 guests listened to the beautiful vocal styling of Valencia Arceneaux which included a remarkable rendition of "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole. Following the wonderful vocal demonstration was an excellent demonstration of classical guitar by Victor Makris. Makris, who practices law when he is not dazzling audiences, returns every year to perform at the banquet. It is always a lovely treat. Finally, following Victor Makris, was the Chinese Fashion Show. Approximately fifteen WMA students and their family members adorned traditional Chinese clothing and strutted down the catwalk to the applause of the audience.
At the conclusion of the celebration, as is tradition in Chinese culture, red envelopes were distributed with "lucky candy" inside. Everyone thanked Master Wang for the delightful party; photos flashed and guests mingled before making their way to further New Year celebrations.

A fine time was had by all, with next year sure to be even better.
Wishing everyone a prosperous and safe Chinese New Year.
